MEET THE BRISBANE TEAM
Years 7-12: Biology, Chemistry, English & General Maths.
My name is Aditi and I am currently studying biomedical science at the University of Queensland. I’m available to
tutor Biology (grade 1-12), Chemistry (grade 1-10) and Mathematics (grade 1-10) and really looking to help students
perform the best they can at school. The main focus of each tutoring session is based on concepts throughout the term in order for exam and assignment preparation. I’m also available to help with Extended Experimental Investigation’s and Extended Response Task’s, proof reading and marking drafts for students, ready to provide extra material from my textbook, if required.
My university degree is mainly focused around biology, and chemistry, hence this is my area of expertise. Moreover, biology is a subject I specialise in, having always been a subject I’ve achieved high in and enjoyed throughout high school. Hence, I tutor biology from primary school to grade 12.
I persist to work to the best at all times, with a positive attitude, definitely enjoy a good challenge. Also aiming to assist students with their organisation skills, as having recently graduated from school I understand how important it is to have everything completed in time for assessment due dates.

Hi my name is Reuben Ishmel and I am a QUT Math and Business first year student. I come from an extended family of teachers and grew up teaching my younger siblings, so I’ve grown to really enjoy teaching people. I came to know very early on that learning styles can be different from person to person in that I have to be actively participating to pick information whereas my sisters work best by sitting and absorbing. This is why I aim to create a rapport with my students and provide tutoring sessions, personalised to their style of learning.
Having had been tutored myself, I can vouch for the significance that tutoring has on a student's grades and mindset during the schooling term. It put my mind at ease knowing that there was someone I could turn to in my hours outside of school who could walk me through things I struggled to understand. This is why I try to be there for my students to help them through the stresses of high school.

I’m Kirsty Short and I hold a bachelor of primary education, which I finished in 2010. Since then I have been teaching kindergarten where I have seen the importance of teaching and sharing my passion for teaching. I feel that it is important to share my passion for teaching with others and would love to share this in my tutoring sessions.

My name is Sandra Vecchio and I am currently enjoying my first year of University at the Queensland University of Technology where I am studying a Bachelor of Education (Secondary). Recently I also had the honour of being a Batonbearer for the Commonwealth Games. My goal as a student tutor is to use the knowledge I attain throughout my course to enhance each student’s understanding of a specific subject area. I major in Biology and minor in Mathematics. Even so, I still tutor students in the additional subjects listed. Academically, I was awarded Dux in Year 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 at Innisfail State College. I graduated from high school in 2017 and received an OP2. I will transfer my ability to work hard for exceptional results into my tutoring role. Furthermore, I also participate in a variety of sports and consider myself to be a keen sportswoman. My involvement in different school sports at a national level both as an individual and as a team member as well as being School Captain in Year 12 has taught me how to be dedicated and well structured, in addition to working well with others with a common aim. Through tutoring, I aim to use these attributes to be a mentor for all students.

Hi, my name is Tyler Keen, and I am currently studying a dual degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronic) and Bachelor of Mathematics at the University of Queensland. I graduated from high school at Nambour Christian College in 2017 where I excelled in Math B and C, Physics, Information Processing and Technologies, and Graphics. I was involved in several extra-curricular activities such as a leadership role in instrumental music and playing in school bands. As a recent graduate of high school, I understand how important it is to develop organisational and study skills, and hope to aid in this development. I aim to help students to unlock their full potential, to help students in their understanding of concepts, and to be a positive role model and mentor to students. I understand that all students learn in different ways, teaching them in a way that is fun and interesting while ensuring that they have thorough understanding. I find joy in helping students of all academic levels to overcome the struggles they face when learning. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you!

I describe myself as being a kind and approachable person, that values highly individual difference and diversity. I am above all, patient and understanding in my approach to tutoring. In 2016, I received a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Queensland majoring in Anthropology and Religion and received my Certificate of Education at Brigidine College in 2011. At University, I received a Dean's Commendation of Excellence Award and at my High School I was Dux of Geography and Social Justice Captain, also receiving an award for outstanding service in Social Justice oriented work. As a tutor for University students, I specialise in my majors, Anthropology and Religion and at a High School level I specialise in English, S.O.R, Geography and Social Science. I can tutor students in all facets of these subjects but am particularly adept at assignment planning, structure and writing. I understand that each student approaches their studies with a unique perspective and try to cater to these individual learning styles. So, if you are struggling with writing those assignments, or grasping key concepts within these subjects, I am here and happy to help!

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Laws Honours degree at the Queensland University of Technology and am a firm believer that, given the correct tools, students get the most out of their learning experience and thrive in the process. I tutor English at both primary and secondary levels (grade 1-12) and look forward to helping students achieve excellence in their studies. I adopt a focussed approach to tutoring and our sessions would be tailored to address any specific concerns you have or any goals you wish to achieve. Whether you need support in critically analysing texts and literature, properly using literary techniques to strengthen your writing or simply want your work to be edited and proofread, I’m ready to help. In editing or proofreading written texts, I check for grammar and spelling errors, syntactical errors and structuring. My skills are also suited to making sure your thesis statement is properly addressed throughout your essay. I also offer assistance in developing techniques to improve reading and writing efficiency in younger students. I find that addressing key concepts and vocabulary whilst engaging with students in a way that stimulates their creativity and captures their attention results in much more effective learning.

Hi, my name is Sehyeong and I'm your local tutor down South. To explain a little bit about myself, I've been tutoring/mentoring young students for over 2 years since year 12. Ranging from year 4 to adults, I coached various people of age, background and different schools all around Brisbane as well as overseas. I graduated with a high OP3 (97 atar), and am achieving high GPA in University of Queensland studying Bachelor of Engineering. I've recently returned from South Korea teaching English to corporate workers and businessmen. You can ask me all about that too! I believe in friendly and easygoing classes. I can be that smart friend or family that can always help you out when you're having academic troubles and not as a teacher to student. Not just academic, I can be your coach in subject choices as well as the road to university. I am available to answer academic questions 24/7 online if need to, your support will always be available with me

I’ve been an educator (of all ethnicities, walks of life and ages, from primary school students to university undergraduates and postgraduate teacher trainees), for over two decades. Having lived in a half dozen countries and travelled to a few more places, what strikes me about education is the great potential, freedom and opportunity it can release in the individual. The learning process is as important as any ultimate goals, as it encourages self-reflection and active engagement in the world we inhabit. I’m a strong believer in learning as discovery, and both self-empowerment yet also connection with others. Learning puts you in the driver’s seat of life but is also a shared journey. As a tutor, I will encourage and support you to not only try hard and do you best, but also actively participate in and enjoy exposure to interesting and useful knowledge, especially new ideas and creative ways of thinking. Whatever you study needs to be practiced, applied and continuously improved too, as "real world" skills and abilities. With some professional and focused guidance, error correction and suggestions along the way, I look forward to tutoring you.

Hi! I'm Lauren. In 2015, I completed a Bachelor of Business majoring in HR through CQUni. For the last 15 years I have built a professional career in management positions in law firms and have owned my own business. In 2015, I became an accredited Business Mentor with TAFE Queensland, helping Small Business Owners build better businesses. I realised during that time that I have a passion for learning and educating others, so decided to undertake a Master of Education at Griffith University in 2016 and have achieved a GPA of 7. Next year I will be transferring to a Master of Secondary Teaching at the Australian Catholic University. My goal as a tutor is to help you clearly define your learning goals and provide you with strong foundations for your future. Part of this journey is to help you identify your strengths as a learner and create engaging sessions that are tailored to your learning style. I would love the opportunity to tutor Primary and Secondary school students and have an interest in the following subject areas; English, History, Society and Culture, Business, Religion, Science up to Yr 10 and basic Maths. I am also very keen to work with University students who require help with academic writing, research, referencing, understanding assessment tasks and proof reading.

Hello, my name is Joel Ramsay. I study a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Business double degree at the Queensland University of Technology, Gardens Point. I believe that each student can do well if they are given the opportunity to do so. Throughout my high school years, studying Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics B, OP English, Modern History and Study of Religion, I have developed some particular strategies which enabled me to achieve well. Learning unfamiliar topics can be very difficult at times, and with some assistance from myself, any student can learn intuitively what they do not understand. I often discovered that it was not the contents of some subjects that were difficult to comprehend, but rather the process that ties the content together, i.e. research assignment formatting/processing. When I learn, whether it be physics phenomenon, or something that I do as a hobby, I find that I understand better when I can relate the content to an application. This is one of the ways that I believe I can help students learn in an effective and memorable way. I look forward to meeting you, and that I can work with you sometime soon!

My name is Natasha and I am currently studying a bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Queensland. After graduating school in 2017, I was able to receive an early offer into my degree due to the subjects I had taken as well as the grades that I had obtained, and also the many opportunities I was given in school such as participating in High Resolves, the UQ Science and Engineering Challenge, and the UQ Sparq-ed Program. However, I was not only involved with academics in school; I played for many sporting teams and music groups so I understand the busyness of school life and how to manage time wisely in order to achieve greatly in every aspect. Whilst at school I had to the opportunity to tutor students in the grade below me, and I was also given the opportunity to be a carer for special needs children at Sony Camp – both of which have taught me how to communicate efficiently and how to be an effective tutor that gives results. I look forward to being able to help you achieve your goals.

Hi! My name’s Chap, and I’m a first-year university student currently studying a double degree in Creative Industries and Computer Science at QUT. I am an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor who is keen to pass on my passion and excitement for learning to all my students. I aim to create a friendly, encouraging atmosphere in my sessions that brings the joy back in to mastering new concepts. Throughout my schooling, I have achieved excellent results in all the subjects I offer to tutor, especially in English and IT, both of which I continue to excel in today at university. In high school, I regularly coached younger students through the tough portions of the curriculum and, in 2017, I travelled to Cambodia to create and run personalised English and Science lessons for children from displaced families. I really enjoy helping others learn and accomplish their goals, and I’d love the chance to do the same with you. So, if you’re struggling with a difficult topic or just want a helping hand with your revision, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Hello, my name is Reyna and I graduated from Benowa SHS in 2016 as a School Vice-Captain with an OP 3. I have a Japanese background and I can speak Japanese fluently. Currently, I am studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). I am majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Science -the two subjects that most interested me throughout high school.
As part of my degree, I have had many practicums teaching at various schools on the Gold Coast. This involved constructing detailed lesson plans, managing challenging behaviours, and integrating different teaching techniques to engage students at much as possible. I also have experience tutoring a number of students privately which I very much enjoy. Prior to the first lesson, I make sure to discuss the topics they would like to work on so I can prepare pre-tests, worksheets and quizzes. On top of this, I like to create strong teacher student relationships, and make the lessons as fun as possible by implementing short relevant games and relating the content to real world situations.
I live very close to Griffith University so I am happy to meet my students at the library, otherwise I can simply travel to nearby suburbs for a home visit. Looking forward to working with you!

The name’s Nelson, and I’ll do my very best to tutor in anything I am competent at, which includes all Math based subjects, Economics (my most competent field), History, English (mostly for helping international students) and any Computer/Programming/Coding based subject (my University degree) if your school offers that.
I’m a huge believer in teaching the ability to learn and understand how to arrive at solutions or methods as opposed to simply generating an answer. It’s similar to the analogy of the homeless man and the fish; Give him a fish and he will remain homeless, useless and asking for more fish. Give him a fishing rod and teach him how to use it and he may survive and live a happier life.
I have helped many low-performing peers throughout high school to understand content which they were otherwise demotivated or incapable of comprehending, as well as assisting international students in University with understanding their work due to my fluency in Chinese. I hope I may bring out a student's best competitive edge in their studies!
