My name is Alyssa Loveday and I completed my HSC in 2017. For my HSC the subjects I completed include English Advanced, Mathematics, Chemistry, Ancient History and Community and Family Studies. I was School Captain at my high school and was also a member of the student representative council. The subjects I completed in my HSC in combination with the subjects I am studying and the skills I am learning as a student completing a primary teaching degree have equipped me to help students at the primary education level. A particular subject area of interest of mine is mathematics, and I recently completed an elective subject in mathematics for primary educators. I am a kind and caring individual who believes it is very important for students to have a fun, happy and positive learning environment where they feel comfortable and supported in their learning. Each individual learns in their own way and I look forward to working with students to discover the ways of learning that work best for them!

My university degree is mainly focused around biology, and chemistry, hence this is my area of expertise. I persist to work to the best at all times, with a positive attitude, definitely enjoy a good challenge. Also aiming to assist students with their organisation skills, as having recently graduated from school I understand how important it is to have everything completed in time for assessment due dates.

JEREMY CHILDS

Hello! My name is Jeremy and I recently completed my HSC at Green Point Christian College in 2016. As a recent graduate, I have a firm understanding of the 7-10, Prelim, and HSC syllabuses. Starting in 2017, I will be doing an ‘Advanced Science (Honours)’ degree at UNSW. I have a real passion for Maths and Science, as well as skills in Business Studies, and strongly believe in the value of education, for both myself and others in these areas. As a former ‘Cadet Sergeant’ in the Australian Air Force Cadets, I was able to grow in my understanding of the value and importance of education and youth development, with over a year and a half of teaching experience, and four full weeks of leadership and ‘Instructional Technique’ training. As a result, I was able to develop my own teaching abilities, by teaching Cadets from the ages of 13- 19, in both large, and small classes. I hope to see you soon!

Hi, I am Michael. After I completing the High School Certificate in 2017 at Narara Valley High School, having distinctions in Advanced Mathematics and Extension 1 Mathematics as well as a Merit in Physics, I am currently studying for a Bachelor of Science Majoring in Mathematics at Macquarie University. I have a passion for people leading me to want to help people achieve their goals which I believe tutoring can achieve this. During my high school life I was a school leader from year 10 to year 12, playing for the school cricket team as well as for the soccer team. I continue to play cricket today as well as referee soccer for the Central Coast Referees Branch. I wish for the best in all people in their education and for me assisting in them achieving it. Beginning of this year I moved out of home and to the coast to start studying Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Newcastle. I have always wanted to go into some form of teaching or tutoring as my main goal in life and my career is to help people and watch them grow. The happiness of an individual achieving what they never thought they could is the greatest thing to witness in my opinion, and I hope to develop a friendly atmosphere, as I would like the students to also been seen as equals and not view me as the superiority

CHRISTIAN VIEIRO

I am also able to tutor your child from K-Year 10 in Maths and Science if they are within those year groups. I love tutoring students as it helps me to improve on my skill in the subject as I am studying to be a Medical Engineer at the University of Newcastle. During my tutoring session, I provide fun but educational activities to help students be engaged with their learning. I feel that Maths and Science is going to be very important for the future generations and I believe that I can help your child strive in being the best they can be within those subjects. We are getting into an age where ideas are becoming a reality and so it is important that we have a young but intelligent group of students to achieve and reinvent a better future.

LAURA GHALI

Primary Maths, Primary English, Primary Science, Year 7-10 Maths, Year 7-10 English, Year 7-10 Science/HSIE, Year 7-12 PDHPE, Year 11-12 Advanced English, Year 11-12 Advanced Maths or Maths B (QLD) or Math Methods (ACT), Year 11-12 Biology, Year 11-12 Chemistry, University Law, 11-12 PDHPE or Food Technology

Hi there! My name is Laura. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Science (Majoring in Human Biology) with a Bachelor of Law, after recently transferring from a Bachelor of Medical Science. I graduated from High School in 2016 with Band 6's in Food Technology (where I was also top 10 in the state), PDHPE, Biology and English Advanced, and Band 5's in Advanced Mathematics and Chemistry. Having developed a great interest in the areas which I studied in school (and further what I study now in University), I also have a great passion to help other people understand these areas, which I think is one of the most rewarding life experiences. I am constantly finding myself applying things that I have learnt and things that I study into many aspects of my life including the sporting world, at work and interacting with others. A big thing that I learnt during High School, and continue to learn at University, is that everyone learns things in different ways. Thus I am interested in working to the needs of others when trying to teach, with an aim of developing the genuine interests of students in the areas that they study.

ANNA CARNEIRO

K-12 French, Primary English, Year 7-10 English & Year 11-12 English

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Laws Honours degree at the Queensland University of Technology and am a firm believer that, given the correct tools, students get the most out of their learning experience and thrive in the process. I tutor English at both primary and secondary levels (grade 1-12) and look forward to helping students achieve excellence in their studies. I adopt a focussed approach to tutoring and our sessions would be tailored to address any specific concerns you have or any goals you wish to achieve. Whether you need support in critically analysing texts and literature, properly using literary techniques to strengthen your writing or simply want your work to be edited and proofread, I’m ready to help. In editing or proofreading written texts, I check for grammar and spelling errors, syntactical errors and structuring. My skills are also suited to making sure your thesis statement is properly addressed throughout your essay. I also offer assistance in developing techniques to improve reading and writing efficiency in younger students. I find that addressing key concepts and vocabulary whilst engaging with students in a way that stimulates their creativity and captures their attention results in much more effective learning.

PETER HILL

K-6 English, K-9 Science, Year 7-10 English, Year 7-10 Science, Year 11-12 Standard English, Year 11-12 English Advanced, Year 11-12 Biology, Year 11-12 Physics, Year 11-12 Ancient History

Hi! My name is Peter Hill, student at Macquarie University studying Ancient History with Secondary Education. I have a strong passion for all things history and anthropology, but also have a keen interest in science. I am very flexible in figuring out the best way for students to study and learn their material, allowing for a more self-guided learning and work process. I am also something of a traditional instructor however, so I have no problems with being a guiding force when the occasion requires it for my students. I am very proficient in explaining complex subjects by breaking them down into their simpler components, allowing me to transition the learning of any key information that may have been missed in class smoothly into tutoring. Essay writing skills I also place large emphasis on as this is where students show off their ability to think, thus I would consider it an integral part of preparing students for exams and assessments. Adversity, Challenge and Encouragement are core to my ethos around teaching, as students only grow in strength of knowledge and skill by pushing themselves forward and potentially outside their comfort zone. It is important to encourage students along the way of course, but in a way that excites them to dig deep and be confident in themselves in both schooling and other integral parts of their lives. Confidence has always been a key element in my growth and development of my personal passions like snorkelling and singing, but more importantly, it has helped me grow as a person and throw myself into my own studies. I am excited to help encourage others to do the same.

ANDREW NICOL

Primary Maths;Primary English;Primary Science;Year 7-10 English;Year 7-10 Science/HSIE;Year 11-12 Standard English;Year 11-12 Business Studies;Year 11-12 Legal Science;Year 11-12 Ancient History;Year 11-12 Modern History

I’ve been an educator (of all ethnicities, walks of life and ages, from primary school students to university undergraduates and postgraduate teacher trainees), for over two decades. Having lived in a half dozen countries and travelled to a few more places, what strikes me about education is the great potential, freedom and opportunity it can release in the individual. The learning process is as important as any ultimate goals, as it encourages self-reflection and active engagement in the world we inhabit. I’m a strong believer in learning as discovery, and both self-empowerment yet also connection with others. Learning puts you in the driver’s seat of life but is also a shared journey. As a tutor, I will encourage and support you to not only try hard and do you best, but also actively participate in and enjoy exposure to interesting and useful knowledge, especially new ideas and creative ways of thinking. Whatever you study needs to be practiced, applied and continuously improved too, as "real world" skills and abilities. With some professional and focused guidance, error correction and suggestions along the way, I look forward to tutoring you.

OLIVIA STOLZ

Primary School, Year 7-10 English, Year 7-10 Maths, Year 7-10 HSIE, Year 7-10 Science, Year 11-12 Advanced English, Year 11-12 Extension English, Year 11-12 General Maths, Year 11-12 Ancient History, Year 11-12 Studies of Religion, French

Hello, my name is Olivia Stolz and I have just completed my HSC in 2018, achieving an ATAR of 95.35 and the Alan Martin Memorial Award for Academic Excellence (DUX). My hard work enabled me to pursue my dream course at The University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Media and Communications), enrolled in the Dalyell Scholars stream. After experiencing the satisfaction of fulfilling my primary goals through dedication and determination, I was inspired to pursue tutoring as a part-time job whilst attending university, with the intention of assisting others in the attainment of their own personal ambitions. Following my introduction to Open High School in Year 9, after my school was unable to continue running French as course, I was able to begin self-directed study, a habit which has undoubtedly assisted me in achieving excellent academic results as well as furthering my understanding of the unique learning styles of individuals, which is something I will consider with each student that I tutor. I am a very approachable, patient, understanding, and positive person, who can tutor those with learning difficulties/disabilities (as my brother is autistic), and would love to help you in achieving your hopes and dreams

BRONTE DE ZILVA

Primary School, Year 7-10 English

Hi my name is Bronte. I recently graduated from Gosford High School in 2018 completing my HSC and achieved an atar of 95.3. I studied Advanced English, General Mathematics, Studies of Religion II, Textiles and Design as well as Business Studies. Throughout my high school career I gained many skills that led to my high achievement that I am so excited to impart on young students. I understand that while many children find schoolwork frustrating and difficult, the feeling that comes with success is worth all of the effort. I can help students whether they are struggling with their homework, don't understand the methods of their teacher, or even help with the NAPLAN and selective high school placement exams. Every student has different needs and often learn at different paces. Some students thrive with a more varied approach. Possibly a more structured lesson or a fun approach can make it easier for a child to learn and reach their potential. I look forward to meeting your child and assisting their education in whichever way they need.

My name is Natasha and I am currently studying a bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Queensland. After graduating school in 2017, I was able to receive an early offer into my degree due to the subjects I had taken as well as the grades that I had obtained, and also the many opportunities I was given in school such as participating in High Resolves, the UQ Science and Engineering Challenge, and the UQ Sparq-ed Program. However, I was not only involved with academics in school; I played for many sporting teams and music groups so I understand the busyness of school life and how to manage time wisely in order to achieve greatly in every aspect. Whilst at school I had to the opportunity to tutor students in the grade below me, and I was also given the opportunity to be a carer for special needs children at Sony Camp – both of which have taught me how to communicate efficiently and how to be an effective tutor that gives results. I look forward to being able to help you achieve your goals.

ALICIA BRUCE

All levels of Mathematics, K-6 literacy. High School Science, particularly Chemistry and Biology, as well as first year Chemistry.

Alicia completed her ACT Year 12 Certificate in 2014 achieving amazing results and this year will be beginning a Bachelor of Medical Science and Dr. of Medicine (Prev. Bachelor of Medicine) at the University of Newcastle. Alicia has been tutoring in various capacities both privately and through a company for groups ranging from one-on-one to 3 students at a time, since 2012 and have a real passion for helping students to gain confidence and interest in their studies. Alicia is aware that all students can have a unique learning style and way of approaching complex issues. Through applying this awareness, combined with her knowledge, understanding and formal training (from working at Questacon) of inquiry based learning she tailors each of her sessions to meet student's needs. Gradually providing them with the skills and support that they require to be effective independent learners. One of Alicia's favourite moments while tutoring is watching the 'a-ha' moment where a concept or problem that was not understood now falls into place and is able to be conquered.

MATTHEW HODGSON

All levels of English and Maths (Advanced), Senior Chemistry and Biology

Hi! My name is Matthew and I am 17 yrs old. I have just graduated from Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School in 2017 and am about to commence my first year of University at Griffith, studying a bachelor of Biomedical Science hoping to transfer into medicine someday. I completed the HSC with an ATAR of 92.90 studying Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, PDHPE and English (Advanced), receiving 90+ HSC marks in both Biology and English rewarding me Proxime Accessit of the School. The results I was awarded in my final year of schooling I was very proud of and delighted to receive after all the effort I knew I put in, yet I owed my beloved teachers so much for all the hard work and application they put into seeing me and those around me succeed. An aspect of my own learning that I want to implement into my tutoring, making school work more interesting, enjoyable and less stressful for other aspiring individuals. Although it may seem unorthodox to some, I really enjoyed school and developed a strong passion and appreciation for each and every subject I did, growing to love learning new things each and every day. A perspective that I hope to transfer to other students as they confidently achieve their academic goals and excel in their chosen studies. I look forward to working with you!

The aspect of Sydney I miss most is my pet rabbit who would be my study buddy through year 11 and 12, sitting by my desk everyday whilst I crammed in those formulas and quotes. I’ve done a little bit of tutoring before and I love to have a bit of fun to make sure that work doesn’t feel like work, but whilst also learning! I look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your full potential with your future studies!

Hi – I’m Brock. I am 18 years old, currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science at Bond University. I moved to the Gold Coast at the beginning of 2018 from a small country town on the Mid North Coast of NSW. I graduated from Taree High School in 2017, where I received an ATAR of 97.40 and featured on the High Achievers List for Biology, Chemistry and PDHPE. Alongside studying, I am also a very keen Surf Lifesaving Competitor racing at a National level and patrolling the beaches of a weekend. Through these experiences, I have learnt how to manage time effectively, while also ensuring that I give the best effort possible. It is my second-nature to help people and I enjoy seeing individuals strive for their own excellence, for whatever it may be. I truly believe in the saying ‘every individual is unique’, and I think that this is the way the tutoring/learning should also be delivered. I am excited for this new opportunity, allowing me to continue passing on the skills that I once learnt and hopefully creating better individuals; both academically and personally.

VIDHIYA SOMASUNDARAM

Primary Maths;Primary English;Primary Science;Year 7-10 English;Year 7-10 Maths;Year 7-10 Science/HSIE;Year 11-12 General Maths;Year 11-12 Biology

My name is Vidhiya and I'm currently in my first year studying medicine at Bond University. I moved to the Gold Coast this year and am really enjoying studying and exploring the place. Whilst studying here, I also want to utilise my skills and knowledge from my schooling years by providing tutoring for students who are going through perhaps similar experiences as to what I went through. I really enjoy helping people to improve and achieve the best they can whether it is through some guidance on how to study, organisation, or going through content and questions for clarification or to get ahead. During my schooling, I found that asking for help from tutors quite useful and beneficial as it is more focused on the individual student's learning. I would like to provide the same opportunity for my students. I am mainly based at Bond University but am happy to travel to nearby suburbs for a home visit or to meet up at a common location such as a library.

Accordingly, I became very zealous about helping students to achieve the best results, knowing that every single one of them is capable as long as they are dedicated to thriving for excellence. While I aim to fulfil my passion of equipping students with the abilities to strive above and beyond, I also seek to provide a fun and interactive experience to all my students during our tutoring sessions so to ensure they are as excited about tutoring as I am. I have worked in a number of schools around Newcastle as a teacher’s aide & have experience working alongside children who have learning difficulties. This is also one of my passions, inspiring me to choose Special Education as one of my majors. I hope to offer my utmost effort to any prospective students, helping them understand and do their best in any areas necessary.

GURPREET SINGH

Subjects: Year 7-12 PDHPE;Year 11-12 Biology

Hey, my name is Gurpreet Singh, I am located in Coffs Harbour and completed my HSC in 2016. I really enjoyed High School and I was the school captain at Orara High School in the same year. From this experience, I learned to balance my personal life with my educational studies and I am confident that my study methods which I have developed will provide results. I emphasise the need to work hard and to try your best, always, because in the ‘big’ world a combination of these two elements will have positive outcomes. During my HSC year I developed and implemented various techniques in my study regime to reinforce these values and I think they will beneficial to anyone that I can share it with. I am a sports frenetic and as a result of this, my favourite subjects were PDHPE (Band 6) and Biology (Band 5), since it revolved around sport. Currently, I am studying a Bachelor in Sports and Exercise Science which has further increased my knowledge in the areas of Biology and Physical activity. My goal is to obtain a Ph.D. in Sports and Exercise Science and to work for a sporting organisation to improve performance.

Hi! My name is Eliza, and I’m from the Coffs Coast, currently studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education at the University of Newcastle. My main passion and pursuit is humanities; my major is ancient history and my minor is modern history. I tend to read anything I can get my hands on, love to obtain new knowledge of all sorts (even the trivial things) and have great enthusiasm for academic research. I know that my final years of secondary study would not have been nearly as successful without the support and the push provided by my teachers, so I hope to impart a little bit of their wisdom to those who need my help, and maybe even to nurture a love of the humanities in my students; or at the very least give them the confidence to be able to face the HSC with a steady hand. I am happy to cater for all sorts of different learners at all sorts of levels, and it is my goal to ensure that those who may be intimidated by a certain subject or individual aspect of education (like studying) will gain the tools with which to best approach these problems so that they can achieve outcomes to be proud of.

Throughout my high school experience, I participated in programs to assist other students in their studies, in a variety of year groups, whether it was one-on-one or group meetings. After completing my HSC, i was shocked to receive an early offer into my desired course and campus followed by multiple other offers. I am now in my first year of university, studying my bachelor of arts, pathway to teaching (primary) at Western Sydney university. I have always had a passion for learning and teaching, and believe that every individual has an area that they excel in and believe that other areas can also be excelled by figuring out their learning styles.

CALEB GRAMS

Primary English, Year 7-10 English, Year 11-12 Standard English, Year 11-12 Advanced English, Year 11-12 Extension English, Year 11-12 Ancient History, Year 11-12 Modern History, Year 11-12 History Extension, Year 11-12 Drama, Year 11-12 Studies of Religion, University English and Essays, University Education, Computer Programming and Web Dev

As a teacher, I am confident and experienced. I can help you in two significant ways: feel articulate with my areas of expertise, and teach you how to get the grades you want in those subjects. I want you to understand the subject material and to clearly show that understanding. I know how confusing some concepts can be and how to untangle them for students. I also know how frustrating it can feel to understand material but not be able to translate the understanding into good grades. I can do this because I went to University for 7 years and have been teaching for 5. I first received an arts degree before becoming a teacher. And I love teaching. After working in schools in Japan, Canada and Australia I know how to have students experience the “ah ha” moment of comprehension and clarity. I have helped develop thousands of students with their communication skills. And I have helped an equal number of students in opening up new perspectives on the social forces that govern their lives. I enjoy:  Being an extra on the show “Neighbours”  Reading philosophy  Coding in JavaScript

DEAN TUCKWELL

My name is Dean Tuckwell and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage). With this I hope to one day work with endangered animal and plant species throughout Australian National Parks, and potentially even some overseas parks! I love to play sports, play music and most of all take photos. I have a photography website and hope one day to incorporate my photography with my work in the endangered wildlife field. Throughout high school I enjoyed science most of all, and this is reflected in my tertiary studies. Upon leaving high school I enrolled into a Bachelor of Medical Science (Anatomy and Physiology) at UWS, where I completed a year before deciding it wasn’t for me. I then transferred into a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) at CSU, also completing a year before deciding to move on. Having always had a passion for computers, I transferred to a Bachelor of Computer Science with CSU, but realising this would mean I would be cooped up in a office for the majority of my life I found my current course, the Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage), and after six months have not looked back!

Hi, my name is Bianca and I am a scientist and science is my passion. I didn't always love science, I struggled early in school with it and found it a hard and frustrating subject. In year 11 I had the most amazing science teacher, he taught me how to study science and how to understand it. Thanks to him, I fell completely in love with everything science related and ended up topping my class in Biology. I went on to do a Bachelor's of Science (Advanced) at the University of Sydney where I studied biology, chemistry and biochemistry. I loved every moment of my studies and I graduated with a high distinction average. Since then I have been working as a scientist studying cancer biology. Recently I decided to undertake to a masters in epidemiology which I am currently studying. It's my goal to complete these studies and then undertake a PhD in a similar field. I love talking and teaching people about science. What I think is challenging about science is that it's a different way of thinking. I want to pass along all the important tips that helped me originally when I first had issues and help others gain confidence. More than that I would love to pass along my passion and love for the subject.

MUNAZZAH NASIR

I’ve been helping students with homework, preparing worksheets to clarify basic maths and English and assisting them in the development of observation skills. Conceptual techniques become clear when applied or related to real life examples, keeping in mind the age and interests of the learner.

Being a student who has needed help in the past, I know what makes a good teacher and what makes a bad one, and I hope to use this to be a really great tutor. I'm really looking forward to meeting you and hopefully helping to work through any issues you may be struggling with.

Primary School, Year 7-10 English, Year 11-12 Business Studies, Year 11-12 Economics, Year 11-12 Commerce, Year 11-12 Legal Studies

Hello, I am Amy and I am currently in my first year of university studying a double degree (Bachelor of Business/International Relations). Recently moving to the Gold Coast has so far been an amazing experience and I am looking forward to meeting new people as well as assisting them wherever I can. I graduated from Proserpine State High School (in the Whitsundays) with an OP 2 and Senior Dux of 2018. I was the top of the class for Accounting, Business Communication and Technology, English, Economics and Legal Studies with a Very High Achievement in all of these subjects as well as Mathematics B. When I wasn’t studying, I was generally out on a tennis court having a social hit with friends. You can probably tell from my subjects that I am very passionate about the business and humanities faculties as it is something that I enjoy learning about and sharing my knowledge with others. As someone who is recently out of High School, I understand the difficulties that can arise and my goal is to try to find the best way to help you learn the particular content in an interactive, enjoyable environment.

Amy Patterson

All Primary Subjects

Hi, my name is Amy Patterson. I’m originally from Lithgow, but in my senior years I moved to the Central Coast and attended Lake Munmorah High where I excelled in Ancient History (1st in class) and Advanced English (4th). From here, I applied for a Primary Teaching degree (Honours) at the University of Newcastle. I am currently in year 4, semester 2. My biggest passion next to teaching is my animals. I have a dog, (Dave), cat, (Casper), my house Rabbit who is also toilet trained (Anna) and my 5 fish tanks (4 tropical, 1 saltwater). I love organising, and I am always organised way before any assignments or appointments are due. I was previously working at KFC Lake Haven for 5 years until 2018 when I quit. This job allowed me to get a perspective into working, and what was needed to be done to keep customers happy and keep the store clean and hygienic- whilst making some great friends. As a tutor, I hope to not only further pursue my teaching career, but to make a difference in children’s lives, whether it be, helping them with study strategies, homework or helping them become a better person.

I want to pursue a career in either policy-making with a career in politics or become a lawyer with the end goal of becoming a judge. I love helping students get an interest in their subject and help them become passionate about it. I know how to engage students of all backgrounds and can help students enjoy the content they are learning which can make the workload much more manageable. My experience as a student going through schooling has made me understand what teachers look for when they mark assignments and exams. I can apply this knowledge and experience to help maximise students marks and help them achieve their academic and personal goals. I look forward to working with you and can’t wait to see you achieve your goals!

Hello everyone, my name is Samuel. I am currently studying engineering and commerce at University of Sydney as a first-year student. I completed my HSC in 2019 while doing math extension 1&2, physics, chemistry, engineering studies and EAL/D at Killara High School. I believe I am a great tutor, especially in math and science, as it is directly related to what I have done in HSC and currently engineering at uni. Besides, I am also passionate about tutoring, as I would love to help those who may encounter difficulty in school work. I also participated in high school's peer mentoring program where I helped a lot of my classmates, and I gain valuable necessary tutoring skills like communication during the time. I sincerely hope I can assist those in need in the future.

Emily Shoebridge

Primary School, Year 7-10 Maths, Year 7-10 English, Year 7-10 Science

I am a student at Monash University studying a double degree in Law and Science online due to Covid. Growing up in a regional town in Victoria in a loving and supportive home with two younger siblings, I completed my VCE studying, English Language, Mathematical Methods, Psychology, Biology, Physical Education and Business Management with a high ATAR. Currently residing in the Byron Bay area, I can tutor in all subjects at a primary and lower secondary level. I understand that every student is unique and will require their own personalised tutoring and support. When I was at school I found this the most challenging part, that some classes I easily understood because of the way it was taught, and others I picked up a lot slower. I will work with each student to test which style of teaching works best for them, achieving a great balance of learning and enjoyment.

Noah Lines

Primary School, Year 7-10 Maths, Year 7-10 English, Year 7-10 HSIE, Year 11-12 Business Studies, Year 11-12 Legal Studies, Year 11-12 Economics

I always think to be the best tutor, you need to be the best mentor. Being a good mentor means to be a role model, someone who you can relate to, and someone you put trust into to show you the best way through something that is troubling you. Being a good mentor is important when tutoring because it allows you and the student to work collaboratively rather than just downstream learning. Working together, be it games, worksheets, and assessments makes the student feel like you are on the same team. When someone feels you are on the same team as them, they come to you for support and absorb the learning process so much more. When someone is in a negative work relationship, not much sticks, there isn’t good communication, and you don’t avoid conflict. It is the very same with students and tutors which emphasises why I think it is so important to be an interpersonal mentor for students. As a personal tutoring style I help my students pick their goals and I assist them on getting there.

Commencing in February I shall be a Masters of Teaching student focusing on English and Humanities. I am qualified to tutor in English and Humanities, however I am always willing to branch out my knowledge and help where I can. I have tutored children between the ages of five and eighteen, all of whom have been studying in various school and streams and as a result, I understand that every child learns differently. Furthermore, I am a British/ European immigrant and have therefore been exposed to different methods of education myself. I have been enrolled, as well as tutored students enrolled in the IB, public school and international school systems and understand that students respond differently to a plethora of approaches and will accommodate based on those requirements. Regardless of what stream you are in, I will be there to navigate it with you and help out in any way I can in order to benefit your education.

My name is Van Ceu Lian Fambawl (often refer to as Van) – 22 years old male, originally from Burma. In June 2013, I arrived in Coffs Harbour with my family as a refugee. I have been helping many kids from my community, and I must admit that children are a very different individual characteristic from adults: active, enthusiastic and curious. As the undergraduate trying to fulfil the dream of teaching in Primary Education, I want to help students learn the way in which they learn best. I strongly believe each student have different ways of learning, and therefore, I believe, my responsibility as the educator is to scaffold and guide the learning abilities that will help them achieve higher achievements.

Rose Lamack

Primary School, Year 7-10 English, Year 11-12 Standard English

Hi! My name is Rose and I’m currently studying a combined Bachelor of Law/Arts degree in the University of Newcastle. I completed my O levels in 2017 with A*s for English, Literature and History. Last year, I completed WACE on a 50% scholarship from my college in Malaysia. Growing up in both Australia and Malaysia, I’ve had a mixed experience of education (having to adapt to both the British and Australian curriculums) and I’ve always found that one on one tutoring helped me understand difficult concepts that I’d always be too afraid to address in the classroom. Having an international background has helped shape my perception on education and I appreciate how many different learning styles I have been offered. Everyone has a different way of learning and as a tutor, I aim to help unlock a student’s learning approach so that together, we can reach their full potential!

Emma Ranck

Primary Maths, Primary English, Primary Science, Year 7-10 Maths, Year 7-10 English, Year 7-10 Science/HSIE, Year 11-12 General Maths or Maths A (QLD), Year 11-12 Arts

Hi! My name is Emma, and I’m a born and raised country girl. I finished the HSC in 2017, and am currently studying a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Newcastle, which I love. I’m a zealous reader and have a strong desire to always learn new things. I’m well researched, always punctual, easily contactable, fun and reliable and have a fine attention to detail. I received tutoring in my final year of high school so I understand the benefit of tutoring and receiving help in a new and different way. I have experience working with young children through before/after school care programs and sports coaching around Newcastle, and also with older students through positions as prefects and captains throughout school. I’m patient, understanding and very persistent, I’m not one that quits. I’m also extremely organised and a highlighter enthusiast. I love dissecting, questioning, prompting reason and provoking curious thought. I’m a creative person who mostly strategies through diagramming, a self-dubbed “visual learner,” nevertheless, I’m very adaptable and will find a strategy that works best for you or your child. Please feel free to ask me any questions, I look forward to hearing from you!

Anna Goodwin

Hi, my name is Emily. I completed high school in 2016 with an ATAR in the high 80's and then immediately began studying a Bachelor of Arts at Macquarie University. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in August 2020 and studied both English Literature and Ancient History. I am truly enthusiastic about both English and History which is why I hope to not only tutor and teach students, but to hopefully ignite for them an enthusiasm in these areas too. My teaching style is to connect these subjects to what each individual student is interested in. I am excited to assist students and help them through their educational journey, in all ways possible. Each subject I can tutor are subjects that I have studied myself and am therefore aware of the responsibilities, workloads and style of writing that each subject necessitates. My name is Nesreen Musameh and I am a university student studying Medicine at Monash University. I recently graduated from my Bachelor of Science with majors in Immunology and Developmental biology. Nonetheless, I also appreciate nights in watching Netflix. I love meeting new people and exchanging knowledge which is why tutoring always appealed to me as a part time job. I maintain an open-minded personality and always attempt to consider multiple perspectives when interacting with others and solving issues. I have gone through a range of education levels at this point in my life which have brought highs and lows. So, I understand how challenging certain subjects or topics may be to different people and how frustrating it is to not have the appropriate support when obstacles are run into. I aim to do the best I can to provide the support necessary to allow students to achieve their absolute best.

John Raffoul

“I’m not smart enough for this!” these words were the story of my life for a long time! Hey all! I’m John Raffoul, I’m 22 and the youngest of my family of seven. I grew up in Parramatta and moved to Fairfield East in 2019. I completed the HSC back in 2015, and then completed a Double Major and Double Minor in Philosophy in 2019, acquiring a High Distinction average for the last two years. After, due to a natural love for learning, I taught myself Algebra, Trigonometry, Differential and Integral Calculus, and some University Physics in 2019, so as to begin a degree in STEM in 2020. Let me be clear: I was certainly not gifted growing up and it took much effort and drive to go from being a below-average student to where I am now. I have so much advice I would love to share with you to help you on your academic journey! Beside my geeky habits, I love bush walks and exploring new places with family and friends; I love speaking with anyone and everyone knowing there's always something to learn and appreciate from them.

Hey there! I'm a design student at UNSW who is passionate about design, puns and jokes, sleep, food and sharing my knowledge and experience. A good tutor is not defined by their academics, but also how well they bond with their students. A fun and open tutoring experience is essential for students to feel more confident and enjoy learning. When one believes, one can succeed. I strongly believe that a 'tutor' can also be a mentor, a friend, a role model, someone you can laugh and learn with. I will pass on my academic and life knowledge and experiences (and jokes) to my students to support and help them achieve their ambitions!

Hello there! My name is Marco. I am a 20-year-old student at Macquarie University currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance with a Statistics minor. I am a very enthusiastic tutor ready to help! I’m very passionate about pushing my fellow students to be the best version of themselves academically and I understand how students want to be taught in a one- to-one manner, and how to communicate complicated concepts in easy to understand terms (I can also make subjects previously thought to be boring very fun!). I always try to focus on a specific method of teaching after understanding how the student learns. In high school I didn’t think I had what it takes to get into university, I wasn’t the brightest kid and had no goal, it was then I decided to go to the University of Newcastle to study NewStep – a bridging course designed to help students get into university. During this course I discovered a passion for mathematics and business subjects after passing with high results, which is why I study what I study today, and I love it! I wouldn’t do anything different in my academic journey, as it taught me what my passion was, how I like to learn, and is why I tutor my fellow students. I believe I can help students understand not only the concepts and subjects, but themselves, plus we will have a fun time doing it!

Christina Charman

About me: I am from the United States, originally from Arizona. I graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Marketing. During my time at school I tutored and absolutely found a passion in teaching. I had always thought about becoming a teacher and still do. During my years of studying, I played golf for my university and shortly after worked for one of the most well- known golf companies called Troon in Arizona. Gratefully, Troon moved me to Kauai, Hawaii to continue my golfing career as an instructor. Shortly after living in Hawaii, I moved to Australia to be with my partner who is now my husband. I had never been here before but I absolutely love this country and feel so blessed to be here. Some of my other passions besides tutoring include working in the surfing industry, playing soccer, hiking, surfing, golf, and spending time with my family. Tutoring has been perfect for me as I love one on one teaching and seeing a growth in educational development in each student. I love working for Student Tutors as I have met such wonderful families and I enjoy providing a service that can help others.

I also believe in the importance of helping young people on their learning journeys and that this looks different for everyone, I really enjoy being able to spend 1 on 1 time with students and understanding how to best offer support to them. Together with academic improvement, self-comprehension and empowered individuals are the ultimate goals of education. As a strong adherent to this belief, I place great emphasis on encouraging my students to find out and understand more about their inner characteristics throughout their academic journeys. As a tutor, I am committed to provide a healthy, stimulating and lively environment that will enhance the ability to acquire knowledge of my students. I am aiming at a learning environment with engaging and valuable discussions around key knowledge and relevant topics at its heart. Alongside these discussions, a weekly reflection is also included conducted in a range of forms, such as self-evaluating exercises, quizzes and group activities. My passion to work with young people and my visions of an encompassing learning environment promise the quality of education and development for my students.

I truly love the idea of knowledge being a transferable quality through the act of teaching and firmly believe a good education is the foundation for a liberating future. I want to further my purpose as an educator and share my enjoyment and passion for knowledge, as I thoroughly enjoyed studying my HSC subjects. As per my learning method, I couldn't memorise the content; therefore had to logically understand subjects such as Legal Studies and English (4U). I will take the same approach whilst teaching. I want to share my knowledge and passion with others to allow students to recognise the inherent practicality of each subject. Thereby inspiring them to develop an interest in learning and recognise that education is imperative to grow in any aspect of life. My students often leave the class feeling they have learnt more and wanting to learn more. My expertise lies in English and Legal studies.
