Let's talk about ATAR...
Many people hear read the word ATAR and panic but fear no more because we have broken down and explained the ATAR so you can fully understand what it is and how it works.
ATAR stands for Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank. It is a number between 0 and 99.95 that tells you where you rank in your school year group. ATAR is based on overall HSC results and is made to be a predictor of your first-year performance at university.
Your ATAR result should not be seen as a score, but rather your percentile position out of all students who started their 1st year of High School with you.
So if you receive an ATAR of 70 it doesn’t quite mean you got 70 percent – what it means is that you’re in the top 30 percent of your year group.
