GEMMA O’SHEA

Primary Maths;Primary English;Primary Science;Year 7-10 English

My name is Gemma O’Shea, I’m 21 years old and I’m the 2nd youngest of 6 children. I am currently in my 3rd year of studying a Bachelor of Primary (Religious Education) at Notre Dame. I am an easy-going, empathetic and energetic person who is eager to try new things and step outside my comfort zone. So far in my degree I have completed two 10 week placements. The first was a Kindergarten class at Condell Park Primary School. I had 18 students, a large proportion being EAL/D students and 1 with autism. My second placement was at St. Joseph’s Walgett in North West rural NSW. I was on Stage 3 with 41 students; half being Aboriginal and 1 with extreme autism. I have also participated in multiple immersion trips in South-East Asia. In 2017 I travelled with a group to Thailand and Vietnam where we worked in an orphanage and assisted in physical labour in rural communities. Recently, in June/July 2018 I went to East Timor with 18 other Notre Dame students and completed an English unit by teaching in a local school in Maliana. I have worked in hospitality my whole working life and now I want to focus my work on Education roles that will give me more experience for when I enter into my career of teaching.
